When in doubt, eat it all

So very Marie Antoinette and yet I completely agree with the sentiment. In theory. In reality, I have eaten all of my Halloween candy in one sitting in years past and lived to regret it. So we limited ourselves to two pieces tonight. Excitement!

We've had a very busy few days lately. We went to a fantastic pumpkin patch with great friends on Friday, went to a Halloween concert and trick-or-treated on Saturday, then we rested. And rested. And rested more on Sunday and today.

We made our own Mancala game, which I read about in How is My First Grader Doing in School?. I had to resort to http://www.about.com/ for more explicit directions than those provided in the book and once I finally figured out how to play, it turned out to be the world's longest game. We gave up in the middle and ate lunch.

It was so beautiful today that we went outside with our picnic blanket and some books and read some stories. We discovered a wonderful book called A Story! A Story!, an Ananse tale with colorful, intricate illustrations.

We also created our own countdown to Florida calendar today. We're leaving in a few weeks for a long overdue visit, so this should (hopefully) cut down on the "How many more sleeps?" question.
Finally, she has been wanting to go owl hooting (or owling, for you naturalists) ever since her friend told her about spotting an owl with her dad. So, we went out for a walk this evening in hopes of finding an owl. No luck, in spite of calling to them repeatedly. There's always tomorrow.
