Sleep Deprivation is My Game

Another 4:30 wakeup call this morning. Included was a bonus milk spill in the kitchen and soggy cereal when we finally succumbed to the early bird and got out of bed. My morning didn't start off so well. It's really something to have done 3 loads of laundry, mopped the downstairs floors and played yet another round of Ariel and Sebastian before 8:30 AM. It felt very strange to start our lessons at 9. We usually do them early, around 7, but today I was dragging a bit. Only good for physical labor. My mental faculties didn't kick in until much later in the day.

I was shocked to discover that DD did not recognize her numbers. There is the possibility that she is bluffing me, but it won't hurt to go back to a daily drill. We've been working so hard on our phonics program that I'm afraid I've neglected everything else. She does know her letter sounds and is very comfortable putting sounds together. So far, we've worked with letters S, M and N. She usually comes up with a word that begins with whatever combination we're working with, e.g. nap when we sound out na, sock when we sound out so, etc. Phonics Pathways has turned out to be a great program, as soon as I slowed down enough for her to take it all in. Now we just need to make another trip to the library to get some books about numbers...
