We already voted, so now we are patiently awaiting the results.
Today we worked with the letter S and paired it with all the vowel sounds we've learned so far. Success!! She remembered all the vowel sounds and we had fun (yes, fun) coming up with different words that began with the letter combinations, e.g. SA Sam or SO socks, etc. Then we played a rousing couple of rounds of color, shape and number bingo. She is really coming up with lots of ideas on how to do school. I incorporate them all; after all, one day she will be teaching herself.
Later, she showed me how she could read a book. She surprised me by telling me several words on the page. This is a book that we read one or two times last week, so I was pretty impressed (although admittedly it doesn't take much). She has an excellent memory and it's gratifying to see some of the stuff I've poured in come back out.
We discovered another fantastic book today: Out and About by Shirley Hughes. It's a collection of poems about the different things these kids do throughout the year. The illustrations are beautiful and the poems were just perfect for dd.
DH has been out of town on a biz trip since Sunday--very unusual. We had a rip-roaring Hween weekend from which we are still recovering. We went to Nature Circle yesterday and learned about squirrels and the different types of nuts they eat. We went out to the park after, and the squirrels were so busy! We actually saw a few of them burying their nuts for the winter. She was so excited. It's really something to be able to watch her grow and develop. I wouldn't miss this for the world.
