Butterflies are Free 2011

We've made something of a tradition out of "raising' butterflies. Each year, we order caterpillars, watch them spin cocoons, emerge from their cocoons and release them. This year, all five larvae grew into beautiful Painted Lady butterflies. We set the last two free this afternoon.

I had NO idea that you could order caterpillars!

We raise caterpillars every year too. Although we have never ordered them...we collect the cabbage moth butterfly caterpillars off the broccoli and the Fritillary caterpillars off the passion flowers and bring them inside to watch.
